Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 into a very poor family with 12 kids eventually included, discovered early that she could escape suffering through her creative mind. Even before learning to read or write, she composed her own songs. At the age of 8, she got the first electric guitar she owned and began singing on the Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. In the same year, she released her first album with Gold Band Records an independent small label. While still in highschool She made her mark local, but longed for having a bigger stage. She relocated to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) and Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. In the year 1967, Porter Wagoner was looking for a new girl singer for his syndicated television show. Parton became a member of Grand Ole Opry 1969 after having signed with RCA Records. But she resigned from the show in 1974, as her own songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene had begun charting their collaborative efforts. The song by Parton, I Will Never Have Love for You (for Wagoner), reached the No. 1 spot after they broke up. 1. for the first time in 1974.
