Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 1999) is an American actress and singer. Her career spanned more 40 years. London was a torch-singer well-known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz standards from 1955 to 1969. Her performance of "Cry me a river" which she introduced on her debut album, was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 due to her performance in Emergency as nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her first professional job was as an actress , while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's acting career of 35 years began in the film industry in 1944. It included parts as the female lead in several westerns. The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the start of her professional musical career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. But, she continued to be part of the Emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) in which she appeared with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
